Few buildings are as hard on HVAC equipment as a wastewater treatment plant. Air around process areas can carry moisture, hydrogen sulfide and other corrosive gases, which wear down standard painted steel cabinets, coils and fan components well ahead of schedule. The plant runs around the clock, so ventilation can’t stop, and Northeast Ohio winters mean incoming outdoor air has to be heated reliably all season. Equipment here has to hold up to harsh conditions and still deliver steady, controllable performance.
The renovation of the Hinckley Wastewater Treatment Plant needed supply and exhaust equipment built for that environment. Air Control Products worked with Hazen & Sawyer (engineer), All Seasons Mechanical (mechanical contractor), Workman Industrial (general contractor), Solution Air and Greenheck to specify and supply the building’s ventilation equipment.
All Seasons Mechanical does a lot of wastewater work, and this project was right in their wheelhouse. When they asked whether ACP could provide the units, ACP rep Dan Paulitzky saw a good opportunity to introduce Solution Air. Dan walked both the contractor and the Hazen & Sawyer design team through the Solution Air platform. He showed how its construction and component options fit the demands of a wastewater environment. ACP also supplied matching Greenheck exhaust fans for the same building, so supply and exhaust air came from one source and were coordinated from specification through installation.
ACP provided two semi-custom Solution Air makeup air units built to withstand the harsh wastewater environment. Key features include:
Two Greenheck exhaust fans were installed on the same building to pair with the Solution Air units, balancing the building’s supply and exhaust. The fans were finished with a protective coating for use in a hazardous, corrosive wastewater environment
Two stainless steel Solution Air makeup air units and two coated Greenheck exhaust fans now provide durable, reliable ventilation for the Hinckley WWTP. The project team pointed to competitive cost, good equipment availability, easy installation, and strong service and support after installation. That’s a combination that matters on a facility that can’t afford downtime.
