About the Project

Penguin City Brewery is a cornerstone of Youngstown’s revitalization, transforming a 500,000-square-foot former Republic Steel warehouse into a vibrant entertainment and brewing space. The project, led by CJL Engineering, Murphy Contracting, and York Mahoning, aimed to modernize outdated 1950s systems and create an environment that was both comfortable and efficient for large crowds.

Interior view of a large industrial brewery with stainless steel tanks and a network of pipes. A large sign reading 'JAMESON' is made from bottle caps, and there is also a 'Penguin City Beer' banner. The ceiling has a grid of metal beams and overhead lights.

ACP’s Role

Air Control Products supplied Greenheck High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans, a modern replacement for the building’s aging radiant heaters and roof exhaust fans. These state-of-the-art fans use green technology to circulate air efficiently across the vast interior, ensuring comfort while reducing energy costs.

The result

A reimagined facility that honors Youngstown’s industrial heritage while showcasing the role modern HVAC solutions can play in adaptive reuse projects. As the brewery proudly states on its logo: “Tough Times Don’t Last, Tough Cities Do.”
